The Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey is a “think and do tank” focused on societal capacity to understand and act on the major issues of our day. We see unsustainable development as a crisis of governance. Sustainability issues are complex and technical, difficult to understand, and often require a new level of cooperation among key decision makers and the public. The Sustainability Institute engages in research, pilot projects, and large scale policy development and education programs to build our collective capacity to understand the key trends that threaten a high quality of life in the future, and devise and implement solutions. We aim to build on our core institutional strengths in energy, land use, natural resources, community form, and decision making processes. The Sustainability Institute is located on the campus of The College of New Jersey in Forcina Hall, and draws upon the College’s ample academic resources including faculty, students and research facilities.
